Main Lesson: Form Drawing -  Foundations for Writing with Ms. Meaghan

We had another wonderful week in the classroom and program. Our story “Scout, June and the Magic Mountain” continued and we have begun to meet the consonant letters; each letter found amidst the natural world and on the imaginative journey of the two children and their adventure. Each day, we recall the story from the day prior and then hear a new part of the story. We then work in our main lesson books, drawing pictures of each consonant we meet along the way. As we engage with these letters and sounds, I lead the children in Eurythmy and embodied movement for each letter and sound. We ask ourselves, “what gesture or movement does the sound “mmmm” make?” Then we explore this together as a group. We are having a lot of fun!

Last week, the children also received the gift of music in their recorders. Each day in our Main Lesson we are practicing our flutes/recorders and beginning to make music together. They are each finding their way into this exploration and challenge.

In their main lesson book work, the children are learning to make borders on their page by using their block crayons (“medium-tree side”). Within the border they create their drawing of the letter - the border serves to help with their eye development so that they can see at a glance the boundary of the page. To then make the border themselves gives the child a felt sense of this boundary. Their hand-eye coordination and midline crossing is getting stronger through this activity each day. 

I am looking forward to continuing with this work into next week and celebrating our Michaelmas festival on Tuesday!
