Main Lesson: Long Division, Long Multiplication and Multi-Digit Operations with Ms. Elsa

October 12-15, 2026

This past week we had a fun surprise from our 3rd grade friends who prepared a scavenger hunt for the 4th/5th graders. The result of them finding all the clues were some math questions which I overheard a few children say in excitement “Awesome, long multiplication!”

In our work with numbers we practiced word problems and it is a joy to see how many different ways the children approach problem solving. In addition to our skills practice, this week we began a daily cursive letter writing practice. The children engaged their will with the focus needed to write in cursive and the quality of the space is so beautiful to be in when all they’re quietly humming to their work. The week ended with us working on our Kroka packing list! We are all excited for this coming weeks trip and I have worked to include aspects of the trip every day so the children feel prepared to go towards this new threshold as a class.

In team course challenge the children joined their teams to create a bird feeder (from sunflower butter, bird seed, string)  and place it in that location of their choosing around Mettabee. We then made our way around the land looking at each team creation and thinking about the birds who are getting ready to make their migrations south for the wintertime. What a lovely offering the children gave for that journey!

warmly,

Ms. Elsa
