Main Lesson: Long Division, Long Multiplication and Multi-Digit Operations with Ms. Elsa
October 5-8, 2026
Last week we continued our work in deepening our understanding of the four processes. Within the Waldorf curriculum the four processes (multiplication, addition, subtraction, and division) are all taught together and it is exciting to see the culmination of the early grades curriculum (1st-3rd grade) become integrated and strengthened in their daily practice of these skills.
The wisdom in introducing these alongside one another and practicing all the operations within different contexts and with varying degrees of challenges allows each child to build a solid foundational understanding of each operation. The quality of subtraction or letting go is very different from addition or bringing something together and those qualities help anchor the capacities when working with numbers in larger place values. Each of their self-confidence has grown during our time back in the classroom.
Along with the numbers, we have started incorporating cursive practice and continued working with the obstacle course to keep the will engaged throughout our Main Lesson time.
This past week we created another class story together. Each child is tasked with writing a sentence to contribute. This time the theme of our story was Kroka as we prepare to go on our class trip next week!
in gratitude,
Ms. Elsa
